About the FAO

The mission of the Financial Aid Office (FAO) of Ohio Mid-Western College is to facilitate student understanding of the federal, state, and institutional financial aid process. This will be accomplished through competent counseling to assist students in funding a Christian higher education.

I am here to assist students, parents, and guardians in whatever capacity I can in seeking out the funding to provide you with the means to fulfill your educational goals. My goal for all students is to help you succeed in your educational endeavors.

Budgets

Here you will find the current Cost of Attendance budgets for students who attend Ohio Mid-Western College. The budgets are established each year and show the full possible amount of expense (not the actual expense) for attending the institution. These budgets are utilized to assist in packaging federal, state, institutional, and private/other financial aid. They are broken down by enrollment status and on a quarterly basis.

What is Financial Aid?

Financial Aid (FA) is any funding outside of your own pocket. FA allows students to obtain federal, state, institutional, and private funds to offset the costs involved in financing a higher education.

At the federal level financial aid comes in two primary forms: GRANTS and STUDENT LOANS. By completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) students are able to attempt to be qualified to receive Federal PELL Grant money. A GRANT is money provided to an individual that is not required to be paid back with a few exceptions (The FAO can answer any questions you may have in regards to this matter). PELL Grant moneys received is the foundation for all other financial aid.

The next level of federal financial aid is student loans. The federal government currently establishes all student loans through the U.S. Department of Education as Direct Loans. Under the Direct Loan program there are two types of loans for undergraduate students: Subsidized and Unsubsidized Direct Stafford Loans. Subsidized student loans are for students who show financial need and qualify for the PELL Grant. There is no interest (though the interest rate is fixed based on the date of your first disbursement) or payments on Subsidized student loans while enrolled at least half-time at an eligible institution, during the grace period, and during deferment and forbearance periods. Unsubsidized student loans differ in that they do not require financial need, interest is charged during all periods, and they have a different fixed interest rate than Subsidized loans.

State financial aid in Ohio currently includes the following the Ohio College Opportunity Grant, the Robert Cy. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program, and the Ohio GI Promise. Ohio GI Promise encompasses:

  • Ohio National Guard Scholarship
  • Ohio War Orphans Scholarship
  • Ohio Safety Officers Memorial Fund
  • In-State Tuition Price for all Military Personnel

Each of these state programs is directed by the Ohio Board of Regents and has specific qualifications that must be met to obtain the funds. The primary source of financial aid for most Ohio residence would come from the Ohio College Opportunity Grant, which is automatically awarded to students who show financial need by qualifying for the PELL Grant. It is applied for through the FAFSA application that students must fill out already. Complete information about these state financial aid programs can be obtained through the FAO or by visiting www.ohiohighered.org.

Institutional financial aid information is available in the FAO.
