Education

PURPOSE STATEMENT

The Education Department seeks to prepare professional Christian educators who demonstrate a biblical worldview, excellent academic preparation, and the ability to teach effectively and serve compassionately in a diversity of settings.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Students will:

  1. Be equipped to function as competent educators in today’s schools.
  2. Be able to obtain state certification or a teaching license.
  3. Demonstrate understandings of the democratic way of life by modeling good citizenship, moral leadership and sensitivity to human needs.
  4. Participate in intercultural, multicultural, and collaborative learning experiences.
  5. Develop skills in teaching content knowledge, reflected in state and national standards.

 

Application to the Teacher Education Program will be accepted during the sophomore year and will involve the following considerations (but is not limited to these):

  • Completion of the application form
  • A grade point average of at least 2.5
  • A personal oral interview with the department chair or other designated education department professor
